Description
All the videos and photos on this channel were filmed on our property in Western Australia.

Although the animals do not fear us, they are wild. They come and go as they please. We do not feed any of them except the bobtail skinks who occasionally get a treat. The bobtails can live up to 50 years, so over the years we have lived here, some of them have worked us out for the suckers that we are.

Apart from filling the birdbath, we resist interfering with any of the birds and animals that live here.

If we wished to have pets there would be no shortage of applicants. But as we show no inclination to do so, they have come to accept us sharing their turf, and simply tolerate our presence.

Wild Home Videos Found lots of Hare orchids flowering. There are literally hundreds of them! Some of them even have two flowers already open. We are hoping that this year we will find a Hare orchid with four open flowers. That would be something! It is thought to be rare to find many Hare orchids flowering at a time, but this doesn't seem to be the case at Ellenbrae. We have noticed in past years that kangaroos like to eat the flowers of the Hare orchids and I wonder whether that is the reason that it is not common to find many flowering. This year with the early rains the kangaroos have lots to eat so they are not as keen to graze the orchids as they would be in a dry year. The green colour of the newly sprouted grass and plants is intense. The colours in the video are as the camera took them. There was no colour correction done at all. As I look outside the window the sun shining on the green grass makes it look like it is glowing. It is a beautiful sight. (2 years ago)

Wild Home Videos Orchid season has begun on Ellenbrae. The first orchids to flower are always the Bunny Orchids followed by the Hare Orchids. These orchids are really small and difficult to find but it is always exciting to see the first ones which pop up. Soon there will be many more, most of them much larger and much more colourful. In this video we filmed a colony of Hare orchids (Laporella fimbriata) which will flower very soon. It is interesting to note that although Hare Orchids are often found in large colonies, it is apparently rare to find more than a handful in flower each year. But on Ellenbrae we have seen many flowering in close proximity every year for the last three years. Individual videos of both of these orchids are in our "Orchids of Ellenbrae" playlist. I have for weeks been trying to ID a bird call just a single bird with a sharp not trill call. Thank you it’s a magpie I have located it on some wires and heard it call. Maybe a juvenile looking for parents.

once you befriend a magpie mischief they will warble for feed and mark their territory with different songs, I've also heard my male call his female to come in and the chicks have a distinct call as well. It's fascinating to observe these highly intelligent and curious animals and they give back as much as you give them.

So beautiful. Their sound just perfect. It is not similar to any magpie I knew. Great sharing. I love when I walked to the water with its reflection and you filmed it so well. Thank you my friend.
