how lucky are we that Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell met each other. such a perfect duo.

First original AIC song: We Die Young

"My bad habits are not my title. My strengths and talents are my title." Layne Staley

That intro/verse riff is so nasty, My god. Jerry is a bad dude.
They look so majestic in this picture. Layne reminds me of a cowboy.

If they came out with a 4th Album it would've been so gritty.
m.v.129 (4 years ago)
his voice was so emotionless it makes the song sound even more tragic
MJSpiritual (9 years ago)
To me this is the darkest song Alice ever did. Its Layne saying in so many words "I'm not long for this world, here's why".

The guitar riff at the entrance is so smashing!!
JustinianP (7 years ago)
Genius, poet, beautiful soul and best rock singer ever. Period.

I don't even care if someone thinks Layne was just a junkie or anything like that, the man was one the forerunners of a whole music movement that changed music culture forever. the man will always have my respect, despite all the skeletons he had in his closet, he is loved and missed, and his name and life will always be celebrated in my home. rip Layne my brother

This was recorded in 1998 (Layne Staley's final AiC song), and even though Layne is deep into the addiction here, he still kicks ass. Beautiful.

Just when you think you know everything from Alice in Chains.
MJTZN (11 years ago)
This is a fucking killer riff
spookshowart (7 years ago)
This almost physically hurts me to hear. It's a great song, just too real. Especially knowing a portion of what Layne was going through. You can hear every bit of it in this.
Stan_Halen (10 years ago)
This song is so raw, hardly any post production, if any at all, and is easily one of the top 3 sounds to define what grunge is. Cant ever get enough chains
cfhhostile5251 (11 years ago)
these great soulful songs used to be the soundtrack for my love affair with dope but now they are exactly what i need to remain sober much needed reminders AIC thank you
WilanderMascrenhas (10 years ago)
This is actually the last song they recorded with Layne Staley before he died
