The Wise Monk and The Angry Young Man
Once upon a time, there was a young man who was very short-tempered. He would get angry at the smallest things and shout at people. One day, he went to a wise monk and said,
“Master, I cannot control my anger. Please help me.”
The monk smiled and handed him a glass of water. He said,
“When you get angry, hold a glass of water in your hand and wait for five minutes before reacting.”
The young man agreed and left.
The next time he got angry, he quickly held a glass of water. In those five minutes, his anger cooled down. He realized that his anger was temporary and not worth hurting others.
Days passed, and the young man became calmer and kinder. One day, he went back to the monk and said,
“Master, your trick worked! I’ve learned to control myself.”
The monk smiled and said,
“Remember, true strength is not in how loud you shout, but in how well you control yourself.”
Moral:
Self-control keeps us from making bad decisions in anger and helps us become wiser and happier.
